About Farndon Thatch
We are both classical musicians, who after 35 intensive years in the profession, decided to make a major change in our lives. Bob was a violinist with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and Jane a soprano working with many of the major groups in the capital. In 2008, with our two Burmese cats, Tammy and Crinklechops, and large ginger tom, Mr. Blobby, we moved west.
With its wonderful setting here in the Somerset countryside and with so many great houses and beautiful gardens around us, we knew ‘Farndon Thatch’ would make the perfect base for those visiting the area.
Our own passion for planting and design has lead us to further develop the garden, building on the existing structures and natural landscape whilst encouraging a diversity of wildlife. We have in the past 12 months counted over 30 different varieties of birds visiting the garden.
Having opened our previous garden in Surrey for nearly 12 years through the National Garden Scheme, we are once more in the ‘Yellow Book’. Our open days are on 11th / 12th July & 21st / 22nd August and also open by appointment.
